NFF: We never approached FIFA over Tunisia match

The Nigeria Football Federation on Wednesday denied a report in the section of the media that they had written to world football governing body, FIFA, asking that the 2010 World Cup qualifying match between Tunisia and Kenya billed for next month take place simultaneously with that of Nigeria versus Mozambique.

“This is outright falsehood, and it rankles. There was no time the NFF wrote to FIFA asking for the Tunisia/Kenya match to be played simultaneously with the Nigeria/Mozambique match. Why should we?

“ Tunisia have been playing their home matches on Saturdays and we have been playing our home matches on Sundays. That has been very clear. We do not desire any change in their match day or time and it is not our business when they play their home games”, said NFF deputy general secretary, Barrister Musa Amadu.

Amadu added: “Why should we be interested in their game? Our match is what is important to us, not theirs. If they like, they can decide to play their match on Tuesday! Why should that worry us?

“People should try to verify a so –called story when they get one. We did not write to FIFA and we will never write to FIFA over this kind of issue. What I know is that FIFA show concern over the last round of matches in every continent and they insist that all matches in every group take place simultaneously in this case. That does not happen at other times, which are left to the discretion of each football federation”.
