Former England International Ambassador John Fashanu has described the Grassroots Sports Federation of Nigeria (GRASSOF) as a credible sports organization.
Speaking with newsmen in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, Fashanu commended the coordinator of GRASSOF, South South, Hon. John Bassey Ekpenyong for the successfully organization of the third edition of Chief Godswill Akpabio U-18 football competition.
Fashanu who is the Special Assistant to President Umaru Yar’Adua on 2010 World cup pointed out that the credibility of the body has ensured that participants from outside Nigeria are taking part in this edition.
The coordinator of the GRASSOF South-South Bassey Ekpeyong has however expressed delight with the number of clubs registered for the competition. The team from Ghana began their campaign with a resounding 4-1 win over Oruk Annam FC, Togo and Ogoni United drew goalless as Benin Republic lost 0-2 to Eket United in some of the matches played so far.
Ekpenyong declared that the grand finale which is coming up on Saturday will be a great occasion to be witnessed by dignitaries from all over the country.
Meanwhile, the Grassroots Sports Federation of Nigeria, South South has congratulated the people and government of Akwa Ibom State on their 22nd state creation anniversary.
A statement signed by the Coordinator of GRASSOF South South Hon. Bassey Ekpeyong described the administration of Governor Godswill Akpabio as a lover of sports, especially at the grassroots. The statement enjoined all the citizens of Akwa Ibom to join hands with the government to take sports to the next level in the state.
