Peter Utaka scored a hat-trick as his Danish outfit Odense beat FK Rabotnicki of Macedonia 3-0 in the Europa League on Thursday night. Utaka showed pace, purpose and enjoyed a phenomenal amount of success attacking a desperately frustrated European opponent.
The Nigerian got his first strike in the 53rd minute, capitalising on a brilliant pass from Anders to beat the onrushing Kristijan Naumovski in goal for the visitors. The goal sent the home fans into thundering celebration inside the Fionia Park stadium in Odense. He doubled the lead twenty-three minutes later as he kept his composure. If the first was brilliant, his second was a delight following a nice build-up from the midfield; Utaka then calmly rounded the goalkeeper before slotting into an empty net in the 76minute.
He scored the game's final goal with nine minutes left as the goalkeeper and Dragan Rodic tried in vain to stop his powerful shot. In the end, the Enugu-born forward had done enough to earn his team a 7-3 aggregate win and he was delighted with his own performance. "To score an hat-trick in an European game is certainly an outstanding feat," Utaka told KickOffNigeria.com. "It wouldn't have been possible without the support of my teammates and our brilliant fans.
"It's the beginning of great things to come and now we have to put this big victory behind us and prepare for the next league game. "Scoring five goals in five games this season is something to be proud of but there is more to come because the team is in fine fettle. "The people of Odense are happy and we want them to keep smiling all the way this season," Utaka said.
