Redknapp: Tottenham Hotspur Deserved Victory Over Liverpool

The Spurs boss feels his men were worthy winners over the Reds in north London today.
Tottenham Hotspur ran out 2-1 winners over last season's Premier League runners-up Liverpool at White Hart Lane today, with a Sebastien Bassong header clinching the affair after a Steven Gerrard penalty had cancelled out Benoit Assou-Ekotto's early thunderbolt.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp felt that the Londoners' win was thoroughly deserved, despite the Reds making life difficult for his men at times.

"It was deserved. Last season we beat them, I'd just arrived and I admitted at the time I didn't quite know how we beat them, they battered us," he told the club's official website.

"This time, we were the better team and we deserved that win. I thought we outplayed them."
And Redknapp felt that being able to re-take the lead so soon after Gerrard's equalizer had proved decisive.

"The key was being able to hit back again after they equalized," he affirmed.
"Normally with a team like Liverpool if you go 1-0 up and then they make it 1-1, the momentum shifts and you would fancy them to go on and win.

"But we came back at them again and we had another couple of great efforts that the keeper did well to save.

"Sebastien produced a great header to win it and I'm delighted with him, he has the potential to be a top, top player."

  1. It looks like Spurs may finally have a good campaign. Redknapp side played a great team and clearly deserved to win. After nearing relegation last season, the team must now be consistent and win at home if they want to mount a serious challenge for a top 4 finish. It appears that if they can do so they will battle City, Arsenal, and Villa for the 4th spot this season.
