Nigeria remember Okwaraji

The Nigeria Football Federation announced Thursday that the national home–based senior team, otherwise known as Super Eagles Team B, will trade tackles with the national U-20 team, Flying Eagles at the National Stadium, Abuja on Wednesday.
NFF General Secretary, Bolaji Ojo-Oba said the match, which will commence at 16h00 on that day, is being staged to commemorate 20 years of the death of Super Eagles’ talismanic midfielder Samuel Okwaraji, who died during an Italia 1990 World Cup qualifying match against Angola in Lagos on August 12, 1989.
“We are bringing the two teams together to play for a young man who died serving this country, and who from that time has remained posthumously a role model for many national team players,” stated Ojo-Oba. Okwaraji collapsed under his own weight and died almost immediately 13 minutes to the end of a World Cup qualifying game between Nigeria and Angola at the National Stadium, Lagos on August 12, 1989.
Samson Siasia’s Flying Eagles, just returned from camping in Qatar and an invitational tournament in Egypt, are preparing for the FIFA U-20 World Cup finals starting in Egypt next month.
