Gareth Barry: No Targets For Manchester City

The England man insists that there are no specific aims in mind at Eastlands ahead of the new campaign।

Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry has revealed that no specific league position has been targeted by the club, despite the high expectations that have come with being one of Europe's top spenders in this summer's transfer market. He is also, just like his manager Mark Hughes, keen to get stuck into the competitive action of the Premier League after a busy pre-season schedule of friendlies."The new signings coming in have sort of filled in every other week. We're still getting to know each other really," he told Sky Sports News. "There's excitement in the dressing room and we just want the competitive stuff to start really, rather than the pre-season. Pre-season's all about hard work but we're excited about when the competitive games begin.""If players can come in and help the squad and help the team improve, then brilliant. But the players in there now are realizing that we've got to stick together and we're just waiting for the season to start."Many observers expect City to be pushing for a place in the top four over the course of the coming campaign, with some feeling that they may even challenge for the title. Barry claims though that there are no specific targets at Eastlands beyond a general improvement."No targets have really been set in terms of where we're going to finish at the end of the season," he explained. "We just realise that we've got to work hard together and help this club improve and get to where we want to get and that's to the very top."
